#10 Google Trends

Google Trends

The New Face of Forecasting?

"consumers are Googling tulle skirts, midi skirts, palazzo pants and jogger pants, according to the company, which plans to start issuing fashion trend reports based on user searches twice a year. The new trend aggregations are part of the company’s bid to become a bigger player in e-commerce and fashion beyond its product search engine or advertising platform."

#9 New Show Format

marc by marc jacobs
Spring 2015

I had the pleasure to go to the marc by marc jacobs spring 2015 show last Fall. The show was a new format, because it involved an intricate runway and set that was accompanied by sensational lighting and custom music. In addition the brand created more of an experience for its viewers other than a traditional fashion week show.

Trunk Shows

"A trunk show is an event in which vendors present merchandise directly to store personnel or customers at a retail location or another venue such as a hotel room. In many cases it allows store personnel to preview and/or purchase merchandise before it is made available to the public. "

#6 Fashion Presentation

#6 New Fashion Presentations

Once was a day in the fashion industry where the catwalk was the only form of appealing to the press, buyers, and fashionistas everywhere ...

However, NOW the fashion industry has embraced technology and is adapting to all of the benefits it brings when expressing creativity within a presentation.

Some of the new forms of presentations used by industry professionals include:
  • Prezi
  • Google Drive
  • Slides
These three software platforms have eased presentations and presented concepts in new and innovative ways.

Another example is broadcasting a runway show to your audience over the internet.

#4 In the Know: Fashion Language

Be 'in the know' with the best
Fashion Language

A look into currently used fashion language.

"The brand/celebrity equation has had its ups and downs — once upon a time, a single brand could dominate awards nights, outfitting multiple stars and making a major splash (Armani, anyone?), a situation that gave way to the one-brand, one-woman approach."

In this article I am exploring the 'in the know' fashion language used by one of the most current director in fashion, Vanessa Friedman. Vanessa is a Fashion Director and the Chief Fashion critic at The New York Times, she graduated from Princeton University and was first published in the New Yorker in 1998. She had previously worked for The Economist, Elle, and wrote freelance for Entertainment Weekly, Vogue, and Vanity Fair.

Vanessa uses the same current language used by professionals in the industry can be categorized by Silhouette, Design/Details, Color, Fabric, and Creative "Jargon".

Silhouette:
  • Gown
  • Strapless
  • A-Line
  • Bomber
  • Long Lines
  • Jumpsuit

Design/Details:
  • Sheer lace
  • Leather
  • Sheer ribbon
  • Geometric

Color:
  • Arctic White
  • Faded Blue
  • Cherry Red

Fabric:
  • Sheer
  • Lace
  • Fuzzy
  • Soft
  • Blue plaid

Creative "Jargon":
  • rock n roll edge
  • elegance
  • unbecoming
